Our Fraternity

Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity has more than 17,000 male and female student members at 366 college campuses nationwide. Its mission is to prepare campus and community leaders through service. Its purpose is to develop leadership, to promote friendship and to provide service to humanity. Founded at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1925, it is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization headquartered in Independence, Missouri. More than 350,000 members have joined Alpha Phi Omega since it's founding.

We are different from many other service organizations because our goal is the close integration of service and friendship. In addition, our service activities are not limited to one specific aspect of the community. Although focusing in one area is useful, what we can do as college students is limited by time and money. As members of Alpha Phi Omega, our service does not end in college. By knowing what is needed in our community, and in our nation, APO encourages its members to go further to help out others, even after graduating from FSU.

APO differs from social fraternities and sororities in several ways. First, we have a strong emphasis on service. Although we hold social events throughout the semester, our fraternity focuses on providing service to the campus, to the community, and to the nation. Second, we do not have an official house on campus. This keeps our dues low and ensures that any student has the financial resources to join. Finally, we do not haze in any way. Although hazing is officially illegal, other organizations still participate in activities that may be considered hazing. APO takes a strong stance against any type of hazing or other behavior that may make members feel uncomfortable.
